A Backyard Wedding in Los Angeles
So much photographer love for this festive backyard wedding in Los Angeles! I photographed Naz & Kyler’s fun, casual wedding in 2016, and it’s still one of my all-time favorites. I just loved the creativity that they poured into making the space their own. (Also the greenhouse-turned-bar is so cool!) But most of all, it’s the outpouring of love from family & friends that shines through in their photos. I can’t stop smiling every time I look back at their wedding day.
Over the years, I’ve found that photographing smaller weddings and elopements is really what I do best. I love documenting spontaneous, meaningful moments between people. Often with larger weddings, the day is mapped out down to the minute. That doesn’t leave much room for spontaneity and can make couples feel rushed from event to event. What I love most about being a wedding photographer is catching glimpses of people authentically.
Setting A Casual Mood With Cocktails
I really loved the intimacy that the backyard of this Los Angeles AirBnB provided as a venue. It felt like the couple was hosting a beautiful party, miles away from the city, that also happened to be their wedding. Guests were free to mingle and sip cocktails before the ceremony began, and I’ve found that this goes a long way in setting a more casual vibe for a wedding day. It tells guests when they first arrive, “This is a party! Grab a drink and relax!” It helps them shift gears from the drive they just made or the flight they just had and gets everyone into a party mood earlier in the day. I highly recommend it, and guests love it too!
My Heart Is In The Candids
And at this wedding, I got to do what I love most: focus on photographing candids of people who love each other. Portraits are beautiful, (and I get pretty giddy when we nail them) but my heart is in the connection you can feel in candid photos.
